Railways

When I was a kid I played with toy trains
Built up tracks that traversed my room
I’d knock em down and build them again
It was the first obsession that I pursued
Nothing could distract me
My parents said I had tunnel vision
I found my trajectory
Those tracks were my expressions
The paths of least resistance
Ain’t what I create
On my elephant I’ll dance, coz I’m addicted
To middle class cliches
Who builds railways?
They put in lines that get me nowhere fast
Who writes fairy tales?
They tell us lies about how true love last (forever)
When I was ten I made my live debut
The tracks I built lead me into a band
Twenty years on I still have my dreams
I’ve experimented, I’ve guinea pigged
On risks rewarded with silver and honey
On a one way ticket to wonderland
Who builds railways?
They put in lines that get me nowhere fast
Who writes fairy tales?
They tell us lies about how true love last (forever)
It seems like there’s always a songbird
That can sing high notes but not melodies
She’s not a storyteller she’s a prima donna
I’ll sing you a song that’s achingly sweet
Who builds railways?
They put in lines that get me nowhere fast
Who writes fairy tales?
They tell us lies about how true love last (forever)

Inverted World

What do you see when you look at the sun?
Take this paper and draw it for me
I see the shape of a ring and a cone
Proof that you’ve been sent from planet B
She’s a snot nosed kid
Not a scientist
Barely in bloom
And clearly confused
I was born
Into a role
To survey
Where we’ll go
How we’ll reach
Optimum
We lay our tracks
And then move on
It’s not my choice
It was my fate
I can’t repeat
The growing pains
To reach our goal
All aboard
Why does this girl
Not distort
We accept an inverted world
Our only hope is a teenage girl
Let’s go for a ride, show me Les Dents Du Midi
And try to make sense of what I describe
The further behind we are from the city
The closer these hills get to the end of the line
I was sent
To this past
With three women
On horseback
To return them
To their homes
And then go back
To all I know
We accept an inverted world
Our only hope is a teenage girl
We accept an inverted world
Our only hope is a teenage girl
I’ll be back the day after tomorrow
That’s what I promised my wife and my child
I’d barely aged but when I got home
My love had grown old in a fraction of time
Au-revoir
Amen Ra
We accept an inverted world
Our only hope is a teenage girl
We accept an inverted world
Our only hope is a teenage girl
We must turn off this machine
Optimum’s not a necessity

Under The Stairs

Almighty
If you exist
Answer me
Please explain this
I’ve been stuck
In this spot
For nine months
Complete cut off
I tried to seek
A better life
I said god speed
To human rights
I look out
The window
Then lie down
Is this limbo
Under the stairs
Asleep on a chair
Leave me be
Alone with my dreams
Under the stairs
You’ll hear my prayers
All I need
Are my memories
I’ve adopted
A stuffed toy
Take care of it
It brings me joy
We go on walks
Follow maps
Of the airport
Visit the plants
I recall
The smell of wet earth
After rainfall
Running of water
Our family farm
The olive trees
At least I’m armed
With memories
Under the stairs
Asleep on a chair
Leave me be
Alone with my dreams
Under the stairs
You’ll hear my prayers
All I need
Are my memories
